I had it replaced with an Edelbrock Performer 750cfm. The car had a serious rough idle from an old uncared for carb. Right away I knew I was moving to from California to Georgia and where I was moving to I did not need to pass smog inspections, so I had the catalytic converter removed and the old muffler with holes in it replaced by a Flowmaster Cross flow. I bought it from him in September 2005 for $3200. There it sat in his driveway for about 9 months. His surviving family sold it to his neighbor who never even registered it and threw Centerline wheels and BF Goodrich tires on it. The original owner died last year at 93 years old. Steering wheel was a waste, it showed over 300k miles of use. Power steering hose needed to be replaced. Idler arm and center link needed replacing. This is a golden Pontiac treat that you know you need to get your hands on.When I bought the car it had the following problems. Plus, the PHS documentation confirms the desirable Y88 and WS6 packages. The sale comes with the owner's manual and build receipts. Plus, this one has all-around comfort with a smooth shifting TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, and the WS6's sway bars front & rear. The WS6 option is a big part of that, and the PHS documentation shows this was born with the special handling package. The Trans Am has a reputation for not only being quick, but also as one of the best all-around handling sports cars of its day. The widebody appearance is pure aggression, there are large flares for each fender, and the spoiler covers the rear from end-to-end. The finish shows some of the car's age, which gives it just the right hint of survivor-style attitude (and a perfect segue for you to talk about the low mileage.) More than just the history, this has all the elements we love. This one amps up the appeal because it's also a low mileage machine with the documented odometer showing this car has averaged less than 2k miles annually. So it was sort of like a custom car straight from the factory. It created one of the coolest coordinating packages around when combined with the darker gold hood bird and golden snowflake alloy wheels. There's something very distinctive about the factory-correct Solar Gold. And everyone loves the attitude that comes from the side scoops and the. So if you're looking to boldly represent an era, you know this is just too good to pass up. After all, it has its correct bold SE look inside and out, T-tops, V8 power, A/C interior, and it's even the first year for the WS6 handling package. This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Y88 Special Gold Edition car really has everything you want. WS6 TRANS AM, CORRECT COLORS, PHS DOCS, 81K MILES W/ SUPPORTING DOCS, TRUE Y88
